Like neighbouring San Diego, Los Angeles downtown is also undergoing rejuvenation.
But of a slightly different kind. Along with new highrise buildings a lot of historic
buildings are being renovated and being adapted for residential use as lofts/condos.

mentioned below. It may not be accurate, up-to-date or complete.

Most of the highrises are planned in the South Park district.
Which will grow the existing skyline southwards. When finished,
it may just come a step closer to truly representing the second
          largest city in the US.

          Los Angeles Home Construction Boom

Los Angeles Metro (Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino and
Riverside Counties) is in dire need of new housing. This is the single
major metro where housing growth has significantly lagged population growth.

Housing has just not kept up with the population growth. Per Census
Bureau, population in these five counties grew by 5.99%, whereas housing
grew only by 3.95%, between Jul-2000 and July-2005.
